Bramwell Dental Practice was founded by Alan & Lesley Bramwell in 1987 at Rose Cottage, in the centre of Harpenden where the practice remains today.
Over 30 years, Bramwell Dental Practice has established a loyal client base due to our reputation for clinical excellence and superior patient care.
It has always been, and remains, our wish to provide a safe, friendly and professional environment for our patients. We strive to offer the highest standards of care and most up to date treatments available.
We are proud of our practice and greatly value the loyalty and support of our patients built up over many years.

Meet Our Team
Dentist
Mr Alan Bramwell
Alan qualified from Guy’s Hospital Dental School in 1979 with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery with Honours (BDS Hons.) and Licentiate Dental Surgery Royal College of Surgeons (LDS RCS).
Having started his career as an Associate Dentist in Harpenden and served on various local dental committees and as a practice inspector for Denplan, in 1987, Alan set up Bramwell Dental Practice at Rose Cottage, in the centre of Harpenden where the practice remains today.
Alan is proud to have served his local community providing both NHS and private dental treatment for over 30 years with a philosophy of ethical patient focused care.
Alan has a reputation for clinical excellence and superior patient care. He practises in all aspects of dentistry with a special interest in Endodontics (root fillings) and cosmetic treatments.
Alan is particularly interested in modern technological developments in dentistry and enjoys keeping up to date with new materials and techniques. He enjoys treating all age groups and is particularly skilled helping nervous patients overcome their fear. He always puts patients’ needs first.
In his spare time, Alan enjoys spending time with his wife, Lesley and their three adult children and two grandchildren. He supports many charities, is an avid golfer and enjoys tennis, skiing and supporting Arsenal football club.
Dentist
Dr Sonalben Patel
Since graduating from the University of Leeds in 2017, Sonal and has worked in a general dental practice setting providing both NHS and private treatment to her patients.
She has a particular interest in minimally invasive dentistry, having attended a year-long restorative and aesthetic course with Aspire Dental Academy. Sonal is an Invisalign Go provider and can provide clear braces to adult patients as an alternative to traditional braces.
She is passionate about providing high quality treatment to her patients and works particularly well with those who are anxious about receiving dental treatment.
In her spare time, Sonal enjoys playing badminton, travelling the world and cooking a variety of different cuisines.
Dentist
Dr Lucy Johnstone
Lucy graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2020 and spent her first 2 years qualified working in Scotland. In 2022, Lucy moved to England and has continued to work in General Dental Practice.
Lucy has expertise in dental emergencies having worked at Glasgow Dental Hospital’s Emergency Dental Treatment Centre. She enjoys all aspects of dentistry, with a particular interest in Oral Surgery.
Lucy provides both NHS and private dental care.
In her free time, Lucy enjoys running and going to the gym, travelling and walking her dog.
Hygienist
Ms Lauren Garner
Lauren has worked in dentistry for over a decade. She qualified as a Dental Hygienist in 2021 having completed her studies at Manchester University. She gained a Diploma in Dental Nursing in 2012 before going on to work at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, London and then in private practise in Hertfordshire and Manchester.
Lauren loves her work. She is approachable, caring and empathetic.
In her spare time, Lauren enjoys travelling, sports, spending time with friends and family and baking.
Practice Manager
Mrs Lesley Bramwell
Lesley qualified from the Eastman Dental Hospital, Institute of Dental Surgery in 1977 and Guy’s Hospital, School of Dental Hygiene in 1978. She started her career working in private practice in Central London before returning to Guy’s Hospital as a part-time tutor at the School of Dental Hygiene, while continuing to work in a private practice in Knightsbridge.
Lesley was later honoured to be appointed Founding Head Tutor at University College Hospital, School of Dental Hygiene where she taught for two years.
In 1982, Lesley started her family and moved to work in Harpenden at David Williams’ orthodontic practice.
In her spare time, Lesley enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She is an avid golfer and enjoys skiing, shopping, interior design and supporting Arsenal Football Club.
